Charles Johnson Submits Chapolin With Scottish Twister at UFC 330

Charles Johnson overcame a series of difficult moments to defeat Eduardo Chapolin by submission at UFC 330, finishing the fight with a Scottish Twister in the third round. The stoppage came at 1:36 of the final round in their 130-pound catchweight contest.

Johnson faced immediate resistance when he attempted two takedowns in the opening round. Chapolin defended both efforts and kept the contest in a chaotic exchange of strikes. Johnson was then poked in the eye, but the action continued, allowing Chapolin to land further offence and take the fight to the ground.

The Brazilian was later penalised for an illegal strike while Johnson was grounded. After the action restarted, Johnson pressed forward aggressively, but Chapolin continued to create problems during the remainder of the round.

Chapolin found his best opening early in the second round, stunning Johnson and putting him down. The 30-year-old Brazilian could not convert the knockdown into a finish, and Johnson recovered before returning to his feet. Johnson then changed the momentum late in the round by hurting Chapolin.

Johnson took control at the start of the third. He damaged Chapolin with a kick to the midsection before moving behind him during a grappling exchange. As Chapolin tried to escape, Johnson used the scramble to secure the submission.

The finish made Johnson’s victory notable in UFC history. It was only the second Scottish Twister submission recorded in the promotion and the first time the technique had been used to finish a fight inside the Octagon.
