Eddie Hearn Sets Odel Kamara’s Pro Debut for Whittaker Card in Birmingham

Odel Kamara will make his professional boxing debut on the October 3 Ben Whittaker-Conor Wallace card in Birmingham under Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom banner.

Odel Kamara will begin his professional boxing career on October 3, joining the Ben Whittaker-Conor Wallace card in Birmingham. The 22-year-old has been signed by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and will make his debut on one of the promoter’s major British events.

Hearn sees Kamara as a potential leading attraction in Britain. The fighter arrives with seven national amateur titles, giving Matchroom an established record to build around as he moves into the paid ranks.

Kamara will work with trainer Tony Sims, whose role will include helping him adapt from amateur boxing to the longer and more demanding professional format. His debut will also give him immediate exposure through Matchroom’s DAZN platform rather than starting on the small-hall circuit away from wider television attention.

The opponent for Kamara’s first professional contest has not been announced. That leaves his opening level unclear, although the placement on the Whittaker-Wallace bill shows the promotional importance attached to his launch.

His amateur achievements do not remove the areas that need improvement. Kamara has been assessed as needing greater punching power and stronger conditioning before he faces more demanding professional opposition. His stamina has also been questioned, with fatigue sometimes appearing by the third round in amateur contests.

That issue becomes more significant in professional boxing, where bouts can run to six, eight or 10 rounds. Opponents can target the body, maintain pressure and force a tiring fighter to keep working. A points advantage in a short amateur contest can offer protection that is not available when the fight lasts considerably longer.

Kamara has indicated that he expects a busy finish to the year after his Birmingham debut. Matchroom’s immediate task is to pair Sims’ technical guidance with the power and endurance needed to support Hearn’s ambitions for his new signing.
