Queensberry Risks Moses Jolly’s Future Against Guido Vianello
Moses Jolly, 30 and unbeaten at 12-0, will face Guido Vianello on August 29 in a major test of his heavyweight ambitions.
Moses Jolly, 30, will put his unbeaten 12-0 record and eight knockout wins on the line against Guido Vianello. The heavyweight bout is scheduled for August 29 at The O2 in London, where it will feature on the undercard of Moses Itauma’s meeting with Filip Hrgovic for the vacant IBF heavyweight title.
DAZN will carry the card as Queensberry gives Jolly a sharp increase in opposition. The Welshman has completed only three amateur bouts and has built his professional record largely away from the attention of the wider boxing public. His most recent notable test was an eight-round decision over Will Howe, a contest that offered limited proof of his readiness for a step of this size.
Vianello brings considerably more experience against established heavyweights. The 6ft 6in Italian has stopped Arslanbek Makhmudov and shared the ring with Richard Torrez Jr, Efe Ajagba and Jonathan Rice. His background also means Jolly will not have his usual height advantage, with the two men listed at the same height.
The matchup gives Jolly an opportunity to change his profile quickly. A competitive showing against Vianello could present him as a credible domestic heavyweight, even if the result does not go his way. Reaching the final bell after dealing with sustained pressure would provide a stronger indication of his level than another straightforward victory over limited opposition.
The risks are equally clear. Jolly has not yet faced a professional opponent known for exposing defensive errors, testing his stamina or forcing him to make decisions under intense pressure. Vianello’s experience and amateur preparation could place those weaknesses under immediate examination.
Queensberry has therefore chosen visibility over a slower progression for Jolly. A strong performance could create interest in the unbeaten Welshman in a single night, while a one-sided stoppage could raise doubts about whether his record was built against opposition capable of preparing him for heavyweight contention. The fight will offer Jolly his first substantial chance to show whether his record reflects a developing contender or a prospect who still needs more time.
