Elisha Owusu welcomes new Erzurumspor chapter after Auxerre

Ghana midfielder Elisha Owusu has joined Erzurumspor from Auxerre, saying he is eager to begin a new chapter in Turkey and fight for his new club.

At 28, Ghana midfielder Elisha Owusu has begun a new chapter with Turkish Super Lig club Erzurumspor after leaving French side AJ Auxerre. He spent three and a half seasons at Auxerre and was the club captain during his time there.

Owusu marked the move with a message shared through Erzurumspor’s social media channels. He said he was delighted to arrive, eager to play for the club and determined to meet the supporters while competing for the team.

The defensive midfielder made 29 appearances for Auxerre in the 2025/26 season. His departure ends a spell in France in which he carried responsibility as captain and established himself as an experienced option in midfield.

Owusu also represented Ghana at the 2026 World Cup. He played three matches as the Black Stars advanced beyond the group stage before their campaign ended in the Round of 32.

The move takes the Ghana and France dual national into a new league after previous spells with KAA Gent, Lyon and FC Sochaux. He joined Auxerre from Gent in the 2022/23 season, following his move to the Belgian club from Lyon in 2019/20.

Erzurumspor will look to Owusu’s experience and leadership as he settles into the squad and prepares for the new season. His immediate focus is to adapt to his new surroundings and contribute to the Turkish club’s objectives in the Super Lig.
