FEMMCO 01: Tochukwu targets Nigeria World Cup place after 1-0 loss

D’Hola FA midfielder Johnson Tochukwu is targeting a future Nigeria World Cup place after his team’s 1-0 U10 semi-final defeat by Authority FA.

D’Hola FA lost 1-0 to Authority FA in the U10 semi-final of the FEMMCO 01 International Football Championship August Camping. The defeat at the NUD Playing Ground in Olose ended D’Hola FA’s hopes of reaching the final, but midfielder Johnson Tochukwu left the competition focused on a bigger ambition: representing Nigeria at the FIFA World Cup.

Tochukwu was one of D’Hola FA’s notable performers during the semi-final. Operating in midfield, the young player showed confidence on the ball and contributed with dribbling, control and creative play. His team conceded early and could not find an equaliser, despite maintaining its efforts until the end of the match.

The result was especially disappointing for Tochukwu because D’Hola FA had made considerable sacrifices to take part in the tournament. He felt the team had played attractive football throughout the competition and had given its best, making the semi-final exit difficult to accept.

The young midfielder draws inspiration from Lionel Messi, whose playing clips he watches as part of his effort to improve. Messi’s influence also extends to Tochukwu’s club preference, with the youngster supporting Barcelona because of the Argentine’s connection with the club and what he sees as its tactical approach.

Tochukwu’s immediate tournament goal ended with the semi-final defeat, but he already has a clear long-term target. He wants to play for Nigeria in the coming years and hopes to reach the World Cup with the national team. His performance for D’Hola FA provided a platform for that ambition, even though it was not enough to secure a place in the FEMMCO final.
