FKF condemns violence after Gor Mahia's 3-1 Shield Cup loss

Tusker beat Gor Mahia 3-1 in the FKF Shield Cup final at Nyayo National Stadium, where disorder after the final whistle disrupted the trophy presentation. The Football Kenya Federation condemned the assault and harassment directed at journalists and fans during the incidents that followed the match.

A section of Gor Mahia supporters entered the pitch after the game, and police used tear gas as the presentation ceremony was interrupted. Tusker’s players were unable to lift the trophy as the disorder affected the area around the presentation dais.

Sporty FM journalist Hesbon Nyamari was among those caught up in the disturbance. He described a frightening encounter with police officers while the situation unfolded at the stadium.

FKF said it would work with the relevant authorities to establish responsibility for what happened. The federation said action would be taken against anyone found to have breached its rules or the law, whether the person was a supporter, club official, steward or security officer.

The result came after Gor Mahia had already secured the 2025 FKF Premier League title. Gor finished first with 69 points from 34 matches, recording 20 wins, nine draws and five defeats while scoring 50 goals and conceding 22.

The Shield Cup defeat leaves Gor with two wins, one draw and two losses in their last five matches. They beat APR 5-0 away and Murang’a SEAL 3-1, drew 0-0 at Mara Sugar, and lost 1-0 to both Vipers and Nairobi United. Gor Mahia will play Murang’a SEAL next in the FKF Premier League on August 29, 2026.

Both clubs will still represent Kenya in continental competition. Gor Mahia are set to enter the CAF Champions League, while Tusker’s Shield Cup victory secured a place in the CAF Confederation Cup.
