Gavin Hunt praises Stellenbosch’s new PSL hat-trick star Plaatjies

Stellenbosch’s Gavin Hunt has praised Plaatjies after his hat-trick, with the club sixth in the 2026 PSL table on four points.

Stellenbosch sit sixth in the 2026 South African Premier Soccer League with four points from three matches. Their record is one win, one draw and one defeat, with six goals scored and five conceded.

The club’s latest attacking talking point is Plaatjies, whose hat-trick has earned praise from Gavin Hunt. The performance has placed the new Stellenbosch sensation at the centre of attention as the team continues its PSL campaign.

Plaatjies’ three-goal display comes during an uneven spell for Stellenbosch. Their listed recent results include a 0-0 draw away to Marumo Gallants FC, a 2-0 victory over Orbit College and another goalless draw at Durban City.

That sequence was followed by defeats against Orlando Pirates and Polokwane City. Stellenbosch lost 2-0 at home to Pirates before going down 1-0 away to Polokwane City, leaving the side with two successive losses in its most recent results.

The table position shows Stellenbosch remain in the upper half after their opening three league matches, although the form record points to a side still searching for consistency. Their six goals in the league have come alongside five conceded, making the contribution highlighted by Hunt significant within the club’s current campaign.

Stellenbosch’s next fixture is away against Golden Arrows on 26 August 2026. Plaatjies’ hat-trick and Hunt’s praise now form part of the build-up to that match, with the club seeking to add to its four points.
