Team Kenya flagged off for 2026 Africa Motocross Championship

Team Kenya has been formally sent to the 2026 FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations with 24 riders and seven officials. The championship will be held from August 28 to 30 at Gallina Motocross Park in Windhoek, Namibia.

The Motorcycle Sports Federation of Kenya held the send-off ceremony at Jamhuri Motocross Track in Nairobi on Saturday. It marks Kenya’s official entry into the national team championship, which is sanctioned by FIM Africa and brings together competitors from across the continent.

Kenya’s riders will compete in eight classes, covering the MX 50 category for the youngest participants through to the senior MX 1 and Veterans divisions. The announced squad includes MX 65 riders Armani Amani, Wachira Mahinda, Thanga Kihungi, Jeremy Hawi and Uhuru Yongo.

The MX Lites group features Kigen Mutuma, Lemayan Mugo, Dylan Hatanga, Jedd Kagundu and Jonross Nyachae. The wider delegation is led by Team Manager Eric Ngure and Deputy Team Manager Shanna Kandie, with Walter Kuria serving as coach and Dr Njooro Karanja as team doctor.

Performances in Namibia will also carry significance beyond the African championship. FIM Africa will use results from the event to help identify riders for Africa’s teams at the Motocross of Nations in France and the WMX Cup in Australia, creating a route to two major international team competitions.

Kenya’s preparation has received backing from the Government through the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports and the Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund. Riders and their families have also provided personal support. The team’s motorcycles left Nairobi by road on August 15 for the approximately 5,500-kilometre journey through Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia, while the delegation is scheduled to fly out on August 26.
