George Ilenikhena scores Saudi Pro League winner in Al Ittihad 1-0 win

George Ilenikhena has scored three times in two games for Al Ittihad, including the 1-0 Saudi top-flight winner that will please Nigeria coach Eric Chelle.

George Ilenikhena scored the only goal as Al Ittihad defeated Al Qadsiah 1-0 in the Saudi Arabia top division, taking his tally to three goals in his last two matches. The finish opened his league account and delivered a result that adds to his growing importance at the club.

The 19-year-old had previously struck twice in Al Ittihad’s 3-0 victory over Najma in the King of Cup Champions. He then carried that scoring form into the league, producing the decisive moment against Al Qadsiah.

Ilenikhena was given his first start after impressing during pre-season. His two goals against Najma came in quick succession, while his effort against Al Qadsiah continued a pattern that has emerged in his finishing: a powerful left-footed strike.

The run of three goals in two matches gives the forward a strong start after his move from Ligue 1 club Monaco to Al Ittihad in January. It also provides a clear indication of his current form, with his goals contributing directly to victories in both matches.

The performances will be welcomed by Nigeria coach Eric Chelle, who persuaded Ilenikhena to choose the Super Eagles rather than continue waiting for a possible France opportunity. Ilenikhena grew up in France, making his decision to represent Nigeria a significant part of his international career.

His club future remains unsettled during the ongoing summer transfer window. Sevilla have shown strong interest in the striker, but Al Ittihad have already turned down two bids. For now, Ilenikhena’s focus has been reflected in his scoring output, with the Al Qadsiah winner following immediately after his cup brace.
