Göztepe omit Anthony Dennis from 3-3 Turkish Super Lig draw

Göztepe left Super Eagles invitee Anthony Dennis out of their 3-3 draw with Samsunspor as Bundesliga clubs consider a summer move.

Anthony Dennis was left out of Göztepe’s squad for their 3-3 Turkish Super Lig draw with Samsunspor as interest from several Bundesliga clubs grows around the Nigerian midfielder.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder had been a regular for Göztepe throughout last season. His absence from the matchday squad therefore stood out, particularly as the club faced Samsunspor in a six-goal game.

Göztepe’s decision was linked to the possibility of Dennis leaving during the current summer transfer window. The club is understood to have kept him out to avoid affecting negotiations over a potential transfer.

Dennis is valued at €20 million and is expected to depart Göztepe this summer. Talks with English Premier League club Coventry City had progressed significantly before that proposed move broke down.

His next possible destination could be Germany. Mainz 05, Hoffenheim, Augsburg and Stuttgart are all monitoring the midfielder before the summer window closes, giving Göztepe several possible avenues for a deal.

Dennis joined Göztepe’s senior side after progressing from the club’s youth team and established himself in the first team last season. He has also previously received an invitation to the Super Eagles, although he was not involved in the match against Samsunspor.
