Hull City step up move for Fiorentina defender Niccolo Fortini

Hull City have made a late push to sign Fiorentina defender Niccolo Fortini on loan, with Bournemouth’s earlier interest no longer advancing.

Hull City have intensified their pursuit of 20-year-old Fiorentina defender Niccolo Fortini in recent hours. Fortini made 16 Serie A appearances during the 2025/26 season as Fiorentina secured their top-flight survival.

The Italian operated on both sides of defence, covering right-back and left-back. His progress has accelerated over the past two seasons, including a productive loan spell with Juve Stabia during the 2024/25 campaign.

Bournemouth had previously shown interest and made initial contact about a possible move. However, the Cherries did not take the pursuit further, leaving Hull with an opportunity to advance their own proposal.

The proposed deal would initially take Fortini to Hull on loan, with the English club holding an option to buy. For that structure to be completed, the defender would first need to extend his Fiorentina contract, which currently runs until 2027.

Fortini is now expected to make the final decision. His preference is understood to lean towards remaining in Italy, while Torino and Sassuolo have also made enquiries about his availability. Hull’s recent progress has nevertheless put them firmly into the discussion.

The move would appeal to Hull as a newly promoted side looking to strengthen ahead of their Premier League campaign. They have won four of their last five matches, beating Rizespor 2-1, Konyaspor 3-0, Middlesbrough 1-0 and Millwall 2-0, before drawing 0-0 with Millwall. Their next fixture is at home to Manchester United on August 22, 2026.
