Ryan Ogam urged to score after RFC Liege's 2-1 Challenger Pro League loss
Ryan Ogam played all 90 minutes in RFC Liege’s 2-1 home defeat by Francs Borains, with Arnold Origi urging the Harambee Stars striker to score.
RFC Liege began their Challenger Pro League campaign with a 2-1 home defeat to Francs Borains, as Ryan Ogam completed his league debut for the Belgian club. The Harambee Stars striker started and stayed on the pitch for the full 90 minutes at Stade de Rocourt.
Ogam was placed straight into the starting team for the season opener after joining Liege on loan from Austrian side Wolfsberger AC. His move followed a difficult period in Austria, where limited first-team opportunities saw him spend much of the previous season with the club’s reserve side.
The result has increased the focus on Ogam to contribute goals. Former Harambee Stars goalkeeper Arnold Origi praised the forward’s effort after seeing footage of him making a long recovery run to stop a potential counter-attack following a Liege set-piece, but also urged him to make his mark in front of goal.
The match was goalless at half-time before Francs Borains moved ahead two minutes after the restart through Bastian Maxime. Liege responded when Kays Ruiz equalised in the 64th minute, but Corenthyn Lavie struck in the seventh minute of stoppage time to give the visitors all three points.
Ogam will now aim to turn his hard work into goals as he seeks a longer stay in Belgium. His loan agreement contains an option for Liege to sign him permanently, making his output during the spell important after a first appearance that ended in defeat.
The loss leaves RFC Liege without a point after the opening fixture. Ogam’s next task is to help improve that start while answering the call from a former national-team colleague to deliver the scoring contribution expected from him.
