Hearts of Oak unveil John Antwi at Kpobiman before GPL season
Hearts of Oak have presented experienced forward John Antwi after his move from Dreams FC, with the striker signing a two-year deal.
Hearts of Oak unveiled John Antwi at Kpobiman on Friday as the club continued its preparations for the new Ghana Premier League season. The 33-year-old forward was presented to supporters during a pre-season friendly against All Blacks.
Antwi completed his move from Dreams FC on a two-year contract. The transfer brings the experienced striker to Hearts for the first time in his senior career, despite his long-standing support for the Accra-based club.
Hearts have signed Antwi to strengthen an attack that has struggled to provide the goals required for a successful campaign. His arrival gives the Phobians an experienced option as they seek to improve their fortunes in the coming season.
The club has gone four seasons without winning a trophy. Its most recent major success came in June 2022, when Hearts retained the Ghana FA Cup. Since that victory, the Phobians have been unable to add another major honour.
Antwi has played for a number of clubs in Ghana and overseas during his career. His former teams include Ismaily, Al Shabab, Al Ahly, Misr El-Makasa and Pyramids, before he returned to Ghana to represent Dreams FC.
His presentation at Kpobiman formed part of Hearts’ build-up to the new Ghana Premier League campaign. The club will look to the forward’s experience and goal-scoring contribution as it attempts to end its trophy drought.
