IASC Above45: Jokesman credits Rashidi Yekini for scoring touch
IASC Above45 forward Chijioke Iziolu Jokesman says Rashidi Yekini influenced his finishing after another goal despite a groin problem.
At almost 54, Chijioke Iziolu Jokesman continues to score in the Island All Stars Above45 Football Tournament, with the veteran forward crediting late Nigeria striker Rashidi Yekini as a major influence on his finishing.
Jokesman scored again for his team despite a groin problem that began in the opening game. The injury returned after his latest goal, forcing him to leave the match and reducing his side’s attacking options for the remainder of the contest.
He said the game was difficult because several important players were unavailable and the midfield lacked its usual organisation. Despite those absences, Jokesman considered the outcome positive and stressed that football should be played with sportsmanship and respect.
The forward believes his positioning gives him the confidence to finish chances, while his ability to shoot with either foot allows him to strike from different angles. He also regards shooting as a central duty for any attacker and sees similarities between his approach and Yekini’s.
Jokesman said discipline has helped him maintain his level at an advanced age. He urged younger players to train properly, live carefully, practise self-control and get enough rest if they want long careers.
He hopes the groin problem will be fully healed before the next tournament. With better fitness and teammates available to supply him, he remains confident that he can contribute more to the Island All Stars in future competitions.
