International runners arrive for 2026 Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon
Runners from South Africa and elsewhere have reached Uganda ahead of the fifth Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon in Kasese on August 22.
International runners and running influencers have arrived in Uganda ahead of the fifth Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon, which will take place in Kasese on Saturday, August 22, 2026. The delegation was received on Monday at the Uganda Tourism Board offices in Lugogo, Kampala.
Most of the visitors are from South Africa and have travelled with a filming crew. Their programme includes the marathon as well as visits to tourism sites, with footage expected to promote Uganda’s attractions to audiences outside the country.
Sipho Marima, a 42km beginner runners coach and running influencer, is among the visitors. He will compete in Kasese for the second time after joining marathon activities in Uganda last year. His previous trip also included gorilla trekking, alongside his participation in the race.
The Uganda Tourism Board sees the event as a way to draw attention to the Rwenzori region and encourage visitors to experience the country’s culture, food and destinations. The marathon’s organisers and title sponsor, Tusker Lite, also view its expansion as a source of business for hotels, transport providers, restaurants and tour operators in the area.
More than 4,000 people have registered, while over 2,000 participants have collected their race kits. Organisers say entries are approaching capacity, with registration still open. The event is listed as a Label race on the World Athletics calendar and will also feature a Neon Rave programme, including performances by Cindy and Fik Fameica and sets from local DJs.
