KC Boxing Promotions sets Soltero vs Buitrago for September 17 event

Kevin Soltero will meet Carlos Buitrago in the 10-round main event as KC Boxing Promotions brings its next card to Kansas City.

The September 17, 2026 KC Boxing Promotions event will be headlined by unbeaten 21-year-old Kevin Soltero, who brings an 8-0 record with four knockouts into a 10-round bantamweight bout against Nicaragua’s Carlos Buitrago, 40-18-1 with 24 knockouts. The card is scheduled for Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas.

Soltero trains at the Larry Edgar Boxing Club and is taking on one of the most experienced opponents of his career. Buitrago, known as “Chocorroncito”, has challenged for the WBA Continental Americas super-flyweight title and is recognised for a high-output style. The bout represents a major increase in experience for Soltero, who has already beaten an undefeated 5-0 opponent on ProBox while fighting away from home.

The six-round co-main event will feature unbeaten welterweight southpaw Marcell Davidson. The Turner Gym product is 9-0 with six knockouts and will face Ohio’s Rommell Toran, whose record stands at 4-8-1 with three knockouts. Toran has repeatedly travelled to face unbeaten opponents, including fighters with records of 10-0 and 5-0, and is being presented as Davidson’s toughest professional test so far.

Melisenda Perez will also return in a 10-round welterweight rematch with Sonya Dreiling. Perez, known locally as “9-Mil”, has an 11-7-1 record with four knockouts and has won three consecutive fights after spending 11 years away from boxing. Dreiling, from Albertville, Alabama, is 7-11 with two knockouts. Their first meeting lasted eight rounds, while this rematch is scheduled for 10.

The card will include the professional debut of Brian Porras, a senior in high school and a stablemate of Soltero at Larry Edgar Boxing Gym. Porras was successful as an amateur and will compete in a scheduled four-round flyweight bout, although his opponent has not yet been named.

The promotion has also been part of the local pathway that recently produced Marco Romero, who moved to PBC after making several appearances on KC Boxing shows. Romero remains based at Turner Gym in Kansas City and has a 14-0 record with 12 knockouts.
