Kovacevic expects tough NEC test in Fufa Super 8 semi-final

SC Villa head coach Zeljko Kovacevic has warned that his side faces a difficult challenge against NEC in their upcoming Fufa Super 8 semi-final. Despite Villa winning three times against the Bugolobi-based club last season, Kovacevic believes those results are in the past and expects a much harder contest.

The reigning champions aim to reach the final to defend their title. Midfielder Patrick Kakande stated that the team is prepared for the battle and knows they must deliver a strong performance to retain the trophy. Villa's attacking options include Kakande, Frank Ssebuufu, Najib Yiga, and Aslam Ssemakula.

NEC reached the semi-final by defeating Entebbe 3-2 on aggregate. Their opponents, SC Villa, progressed after a 4-2 aggregate victory over Maroons. Both teams secured their spots by winning the second leg after their initial matches ended in 1-1 draws.

Kovacevic's side may face a fatigue disadvantage. Villa played their quarter-final match only three days ago following a postponement caused by the death of David Owori. In contrast, NEC has had more rest after playing their previous match last week.

NEC's lineup features Richard Basangwa, who scored twice against UPPC, and forward Fahad Bayo, who has recently returned to the Uganda Premier League after playing abroad. The match serves as a repeat of last year's final, which SC Villa won 2-0 at the Fufa Stadium in Kadiba.

KCCA have already secured their place in the final, which is scheduled for Tuesday, August 18, following their 1-0 win over Kitara. Before the semi-final, NEC will play a classification match against Maroons at 4pm at the same venue.
