Lille confirm Man City talks over 18-year-old Moroccan midfielder

Ayyoub Bouaddi, 18, has become the subject of negotiations between Lille and Manchester City. The central midfielder, who holds Moroccan and French citizenship, remains a Lille player while discussions continue over a possible move.

Lille manager Ancelotti confirmed that City are among several clubs interested in Bouaddi. He also made clear that he would prefer the teenager to stay at Lille after Bouaddi featured for 45 minutes in the club’s 1-1 pre-season draw with Everton.

Bouaddi’s growing reputation has made him one of the most sought-after young midfielders in Europe. He was also praised for his performance against Brazil in Morocco’s opening World Cup fixture, adding to the attention around his progress.

Ancelotti described Bouaddi as an intelligent and mature player with strong technical and physical qualities. The midfielder is valued at €80 million by Lille, while the club would reportedly seek at least £85 million for the Morocco international. He has also been linked with interest from other European clubs.

Manchester City’s pursuit comes as the club prepares for the new Premier League season. Their midfield plans have been affected by Tijjani Reijnders’ move to Saudi Arabia and uncertainty over Rodri’s future amid reported interest from Barcelona.

City manager Enzo Maresca has said the club wants its remaining recruitment completed quickly, with the Premier League campaign due to begin in one week. Bouaddi developed through Lille’s youth system before progressing to the senior side, following moves from Creil’s youth team to Lille’s academy and then through the club’s under-17 and under-19 teams.
