Liverpool and Arsenal head to tribunal over Vincent Joseph

Liverpool and Arsenal are set to attend a tribunal to resolve a dispute regarding compensation for 16-year-old striker Vincent Joseph. The two clubs failed to reach an agreement on a transfer fee after the Nigerian-born prospect chose to move from Anfield to the Premier League champions.

Joseph had previously progressed to Liverpool's Under-18 squad and was offered a scholarship by the club. The teenager declined the scholarship offer, which required a signature by July 1. While several major European clubs including Chelsea, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, and Bayern Munich were monitoring the player, Arsenal secured his signature.

The disagreement follows a similar pattern to the recent transfer of 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea to Liverpool. In that instance, a tribunal determined that Liverpool must pay Chelsea £2.8 million, a figure that could reach £4 million with add-ons, alongside a 20% sell-on clause. Liverpool is seeking a comparable financial settlement in the case of Joseph.

Joseph is the younger brother of Valentin Joseph, an 18-year-old striker who is moving from Blackburn to Brighton. The younger Joseph holds English, German, and Nigerian heritage.

The tribunal will now decide the financial value of the teenage striker. Arsenal have secured the services of the player, who is viewed as a significant prospect for the future.
