Lulu Sun has announced she is taking an indefinite break from professional tennis. The world No. 119 stated she needs to step away from the sport to focus on her personal wellbeing.

In a social media post, the left-hander explained that the constant pressure to improve and the non-stop nature of the professional competition schedule have become too much. She noted that these physical and mental requirements can affect various aspects of a person's life. Sun intends to use this period to rest, reset, and find balance outside of the tennis court before deciding on her next steps.

Sun expressed deep gratitude to her family, friends, and teammates for their ongoing faith in her. She also thanked her fans and her sponsors for their continued support and trust throughout her career.

The announcement comes after a period of mixed results on the major stage. While she achieved a career-defining run at Wimbledon 2024 by defeating Emma Raducanu to reach the quarter-finals, her subsequent Grand Slam appearances have been more difficult. Since that breakthrough, she has managed only one victory in six Grand Slam matches, with her most recent progress being a second-round appearance at the 2025 US Open.
