Maduka Okoye commits future to Udinese amid Serie A transfer talk

Nigeria goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has set aside links with Juventus and Inter Milan, saying his focus is Udinese after opening the campaign with a Coppa Italia clean sheet.

Maduka Okoye has made his immediate position clear amid renewed transfer speculation, saying his focus is entirely on Udinese. The Nigeria international has been linked with Juventus and Inter Milan in recent transfer windows, but he is now directing his attention towards the Italian club and its targets for the season.

Okoye has established himself as Udinese’s first-choice goalkeeper. His latest competitive appearance strengthened that role, as he kept a clean sheet in the club’s 1-0 victory over Padova in the Coppa Italia. The result provided Udinese with a positive start to the new campaign and gave Okoye an early platform to build on.

The 26-year-old said the squad was prepared for the season after working hard during the weeks before its start. “We’re ready. We’ve worked so hard over the past few weeks, and we’re all pumped up for the start of the season,” Okoye told Tuttoudinese.

His emphasis was on collective objectives rather than his own situation. “We have our goals, and we want to try to achieve them,” he said. Okoye added that he wanted to give everything for Udinese, the team and the supporters, making clear that his commitment is centred on his current club despite the interest associated with his name.

The goalkeeper also drew a line between his football career and his activities away from the pitch. He said those activities were part of his life and important to his personal branding, but stressed that he keeps the two areas separate. When he is with Udinese, he said, his attention is on his work and the club.

That distinction is significant because Okoye’s name has continued to appear in discussions involving larger Serie A clubs. Juventus and Inter Milan have been identified as interested parties in previous transfer windows, yet his latest comments do not suggest that those links are shaping his approach to the new season. Instead, he presented himself as a player settled on fulfilling his responsibilities in Udine.

Okoye’s clean sheet against Padova also gives his commitment a clear sporting context. Udinese progressed from the match with a narrow 1-0 win, and the goalkeeper’s role was to protect that advantage. His performance was described as an encouraging start and a strong return in goal, while the club’s broader aim is to improve its position in Serie A.

He also spoke positively about the other goalkeepers around him. Okoye said the club was “in good hands”, describing Piana as a young goalkeeper with considerable talent. He praised Padelli for the quality and experience he brings, and said he was excited to see how both players develop. His comments presented the goalkeeping group as a supportive unit rather than a competition defined only by his own place in the team.

For Udinese, retaining a first-choice goalkeeper who is publicly focused on the club offers continuity at the beginning of the campaign. For Okoye, the immediate task is to follow the Padova clean sheet with consistent performances in Serie A and help Udinese climb the standings. His next phase in Italy will therefore be measured less by transfer speculation and more by the contribution he makes to the club’s stated goals.
