
MFM win Louis Edem West Africa Basketball Championship
MFM defeated First Bank 49-41 to claim the title at the inaugural all-women edition of the Louis Edem West Africa Basketball Championship.
MFM secured the title at the first all-women edition of the Louis Edem West Africa Basketball Championship by defeating First Bank 49-41. The two-time women's league champions overcame the record holders of the women's league in the final match.
The tournament concluded at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere. In the third-place playoff held earlier on the same day, Victoria Queens of Lagos beat GRA of Ghana with a score of 54-48.
Louis Edem, the organiser of the championship, praised the participating teams. He noted that the competition serves as a significant milestone for the Louis Edem Foundations. He added that the presence of the Ghanaian team against elite Nigerian sides helps improve their performance in their domestic league and encourages regional and youth cooperation.
Victoria Queens captain Toluwani Arogundade described the tournament as a positive experience for her side. She expressed appreciation to the organisers and stated that the team intends to improve their performance ahead of their planned participation in the 2026 Women League.
Sponsor B4 Sail Finance Ltd representative Oluwatobiloba Oladipupo noted that the tournament provided a way to invest in Nigerian youth through sports. Oladipupo remarked that the competition was exciting from the start and observed that the players demonstrated discipline, teamwork, and resilience.
