Millwall rule out Femi Azeez for Norwich Championship fixture

Millwall forward Femi Azeez will miss Saturday’s Championship meeting with Norwich City after suffering a slight strain in the opening-day victory over Bristol City. Head coach Alex Neil confirmed that the Nigerian’s injury is not serious, but the fixture at The Den has arrived too soon for him.
Azeez sustained the knock during the first half of Millwall’s 2-0 win. The initial assessment suggested that the problem was minor, and Neil had hoped the 25-year-old would recover in time. The latest update means Azeez will instead continue his rehabilitation ahead of the club’s next league match.
Millwall began the campaign with three points, with Josh Coburn scoring both goals against Bristol City. The result was an encouraging start for Neil’s side after they fell short in last season’s promotion play-offs, where Hull City eliminated them in the semi-finals.
Saturday’s match will be Millwall’s first home league fixture of the new season. Neil has described Norwich as a strong opponent and said his team would need to reproduce the level they showed in the opening win. Azeez’s absence removes one of the attacking options available to him for the contest.
The forward’s fitness is also relevant to Nigeria, who begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign next month. Azeez made his Super Eagles debut at the 2026 Unity Cup and strengthened his claims for a regular international role after scoring twice in the semi-final against Zimbabwe and contributing to the final win over Jamaica.
Azeez will now target a return for Millwall’s third league game of the season, away to Southampton next weekend. His performances for club and country have also brought interest from Brighton, while Hull City have been linked with him.
