National 100 Point Eastern Highlands Footgolf Open ready for launch

Zimbabwe’s National 100 Point Eastern Highlands Footgolf Open will be held this weekend at Eve Golf Course in Florida, Mutare.

The National 100 Point Eastern Highlands Footgolf Open will take place on Saturday and Sunday at Eve Golf Course in Florida, Mutare. Play is scheduled to begin at 11am on Saturday before the second day starts at 9am on Sunday.

Footgolfers from around Zimbabwe are expected to compete at the Eastern Highlands venue, with national ranking points available across the tournament. The event forms part of the country’s national footgolf tour and gives players an opportunity to improve their positions in the rankings.

The Zimbabwe Footgolf Association is completing preparations for the competition, which has been designed to take the national circuit beyond the country’s usual venues. The tournament will be the latest major footgolf meeting held in Zimbabwe as the sport continues to build its following.

Footgolf combines elements of football and golf. Players use their feet to send a football towards a hole measuring 52 centimetres, with the objective of completing the course in as few attempts as possible. Its format has helped the sport expand while remaining connected to football’s core skill of kicking.

The move to the Eastern Highlands also gives the competition a tourism dimension. The event is expected to highlight the area as a sports destination while encouraging engagement with the local community. Tournament director Chipo Mubonderi said the organisers were pleased to take the national tour to the region and viewed the open as a platform for both competitors and the destination.

With national ranking points at stake and entries anticipated from across the country, the weekend meeting will provide a significant test for Zimbabwe’s footgolfers. The tournament will also place the Eastern Highlands at the centre of the local sport’s national programme for two days.
