NFF dismisses Super Falcons coaching crew after World Cup failure

Nigeria’s football federation has removed the Super Falcons coaching crew after the team missed out on the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

The Nigeria Football Federation has dismissed the entire Super Falcons technical crew after Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The NFF Executive Committee ordered all members of the coaching team to leave their positions with immediate effect on Monday.

The decision followed a difficult campaign at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and the subsequent African qualifying playoffs. Nigeria’s hopes of securing automatic World Cup qualification ended with a 1-0 quarter-final defeat by Cameroon.

That result marked the Super Falcons’ earliest exit from the WAFCON. It also sent them into the African playoffs, where they needed to overcome South Africa to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

Instead, Nigeria lost 2-1 to Banyana Banyana in the playoff. The defeat ended the team’s chances of reaching the 2027 tournament in Brazil and completed a campaign in which the Super Falcons fell short in both continental competition and the final qualifying route.

Nigeria’s absence will be a major change for a side that had appeared at every previous Women’s World Cup. The Super Falcons are also nine-time African champions, making the failure to qualify a significant setback for the national team.

The coaching crew’s removal comes as the federation responds to that outcome. The immediate task is to address a campaign that produced an early WAFCON elimination, a playoff defeat by South Africa and Nigeria’s first failure to reach the Women’s World Cup.
