NPFL 2026: Nasarawa United sign Mohammad Umar from Barau FC
Nasarawa United have added Barau FC midfielder Mohammad Umar after finishing fifth in the 2026 NPFL with 56 points from 38 matches.
Nasarawa United have signed midfielder Mohammad Umar from Barau FC ahead of the new Nigeria Professional Football League season. The Solid Miners finished fifth in the 2026 NPFL with 56 points from 38 matches, recording 16 wins, eight draws and 14 defeats.
Umar arrives after featuring regularly for Barau FC during the club’s first NPFL campaign. He was a regular starter for the Maliya Boys and contributed to their top-half finish in their maiden season in the division.
The move brings Umar to a Nasarawa side that scored 37 goals and conceded 34 during the 2026 campaign. Their record placed them in the upper part of the table, although they finished 15 points behind the 71-point total recorded by the available league leaders.
Nasarawa United’s recent results included a 1-1 draw with Ikorodu City and a 2-1 victory over Plateau United. They then drew 2-2 away to Rivers United FC before losing 3-0 at Barau FC, with their latest listed result a 1-0 win over Plateau United.
That recent sequence gives the Umar transfer an added connection to Nasarawa United’s schedule. Barau FC were responsible for one of the Solid Miners’ recent defeats, while Umar now moves from the club to strengthen the team ahead of the next campaign.
The two clubs are due to meet again on 30 August 2026, when Barau FC will host Nasarawa United in the Nigeria Professional Football League. Umar’s switch means the midfielder could face his former club in that fixture, subject to his availability for the match.
