NPFL: Sunday Megwo joins Etoile du Sahel on two-year deal
Abia Warriors attacker Sunday Megwo has joined Tunisian club Etoile du Sahel on a contract running until 2028 after two NPFL seasons.
Sunday Megwo has left Abia Warriors for Tunisian club Etoile du Sahel, signing a two-year contract that will keep him with the four-time African champions until 2028. The move takes the attacker from the NPFL to North Africa ahead of the new domestic campaign.
Megwo spent the past two seasons with Abia Warriors and was among the Umuahia club’s important attacking players. He scored 27 goals in 84 appearances during his time with the NPFL side, helping them remain in contention for a place in continental competition.
His arrival comes as Etoile prepare for the 2026-27 domestic season and a return to CAF competition. The Tunisian club finished third in the league last term and will be seeking to challenge for the title in the next campaign with Megwo added to their squad.
Etoile are listed sixth in the 2026 Tunisian Ligue 1 standings, although they have yet to play a match and have no points or goals recorded. Their next scheduled fixture is against ES Tunis on 23 August 2026.
The club’s recent five-match sequence includes two wins and three defeats. Etoile beat Club Athlétique Bizertin 1-0 and AS Marsa 1-0, but lost 3-1 away to CS Sfaxien, 3-1 at ES Zarzis and 2-0 at ES Metlaoui.
Megwo is expected to join his new teammates immediately as Etoile continue preparations for the season. He becomes the latest Nigerian player to move to North Africa, with his goalscoring record at Abia Warriors now carrying into a new league and a club preparing for CAF action.
