Nwabali Unfazed by Super Eagles Goalkeeping Race After Chippa Return

Stanley Nwabali has played down concerns about reclaiming Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper position, saying his immediate priority is helping Chippa United achieve its targets in the new season.

The goalkeeper returned to the South African club last month after leaving in February. His focus is now on settling back into the team and contributing to Chippa’s campaign rather than concentrating on his position with the Super Eagles.

Nwabali said his return to Chippa had been positive and that the relationship between him and the club was in good shape. He also indicated that the agreement covering his return had been resolved satisfactorily, allowing him to concentrate on football.

The Nigerian faces stronger competition for the national-team role after Maduka Okoye and Arthur Okonkwo featured in goal during his absence. Their involvement has added uncertainty around who will start for Nigeria when the team resumes its competitive schedule.

Nwabali, however, is not treating that contest as an immediate concern. His stated aim is to help Chippa collect as many points as possible and support the club’s objectives before turning his attention fully to the Super Eagles.

Nigeria are due back in action in September against Madagascar in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. That fixture will provide the next national-team setting in which the goalkeeping choices, including Nwabali’s place in the squad, can be assessed.
