Ofori suffers as Benfica beat Casa Pia 7-0 in Primeira Liga clash
Lawrence Ofori scored an own goal as Casa Pia lost 7-0 to Benfica in the Primeira Liga, leaving the Ghanaian’s side without a win in two games.
Lawrence Ofori endured a difficult night as Casa Pia were beaten 7-0 by Benfica in the Primeira Liga on Monday. The 28-year-old Ghanaian midfielder appeared in his second league match of the season as his team suffered another defeat.
Benfica needed only three minutes to take the lead, with Gianluca Prestianni finishing the opening move. Rafa Silva added a second in the 14th minute, leaving Casa Pia facing a steep challenge before half-time.
The match moved beyond Casa Pia’s reach soon after the restart. Vangelis Pavlidis scored three times between the 47th and 54th minutes, completing his burst with goals in the 47th, 49th and 54th minutes to give Benfica a 5-0 advantage.
Ofori then inadvertently put the ball into his own net in the 58th minute. Jhon Duran completed Benfica’s scoring three minutes later, confirming the seven-goal margin and adding to Casa Pia’s poor start to the campaign.
Casa Pia have now lost both of their league matches and are still searching for their first victory. Ofori’s previous appearance had been more encouraging: despite a narrow defeat by Maritimo, he received an individual rating of 7.1 for his performance.
Benfica’s recent results had included victories over FC St. Gallen, CF Os Belenenses and Villarreal, although they had also lost to FC St. Gallen and Flamengo. Their wins in that sequence included a 5-0 result against St. Gallen and a 5-1 victory over Belenenses, before Monday’s emphatic league success.
