Okraku says GFA has won CAF and FIFA confidence through reforms

GFA president Kurt Okraku says governance reforms have strengthened Ghana football’s standing with CAF and FIFA at the association’s 32nd Congress.

Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku says the organisation’s governance reforms and focus on institutional integrity have earned the confidence and admiration of CAF and FIFA. He made the claim at the GFA’s 32nd Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Thursday.

Okraku said the changes introduced during his administration had improved the credibility of Ghana football beyond the country’s borders. He presented the reforms as evidence that the association’s work in governance and football administration was receiving recognition at continental and global levels.

He urged the GFA to use the next 12 months to strengthen the measures already in place. The association, he said, must protect the progress made, extend the reforms and speed up efforts to improve different areas of Ghana’s game.

Okraku has led the GFA since being elected in October 2019. He secured a second four-year term in October 2023, winning 117 of the 120 votes cast at that election.

His responsibilities also include senior roles within CAF. He is the confederation’s Second Vice-President and sits on its Executive Committee. He also leads the CAF Organising Committee for Inter-Club Competitions and Club Licensing.

The GFA’s reform agenda under Okraku has covered football administration, grassroots development, competitions and the broader structure of the sport. The association is now preparing for another season while continuing programmes aimed at improving domestic football, including its competitiveness and commercial appeal.
