Patrice Beaumelle emerges as Ghana Black Stars coaching candidate
French coach Patrice Beaumelle is under consideration for Ghana’s vacant Black Stars post as the team prepares for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
Patrice Beaumelle has emerged as a candidate for Ghana’s vacant Black Stars coaching position, with the Ghana Football Association yet to appoint a permanent successor to Carlos Queiroz.
Queiroz’s four-month contract has ended, leaving Ghana without a substantive head coach. The Portuguese coach took charge in April after Otto Addo was dismissed in March, with responsibility for guiding the team at the 2026 Fifa World Cup in North America included in his mandate.
Beaumelle brings extensive experience of African international football. The French coach has managed Ivory Coast, Zambia and Angola, giving him a background across three national teams on the continent.
He was previously part of Ivory Coast’s technical staff when the Elephants won the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. Beaumelle later became the team’s head coach before taking charge of Zambia and Angola at international level.
Desmond Ofei is also understood to be among the leading options for the role, but Beaumelle is now another name under consideration as Ghana searches for a coach. The appointment has become more urgent after the Black Stars failed to reach the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Ghana’s next major assignment is the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign, which is scheduled to resume next month. The Black Stars have been placed in Group C with Ivory Coast, The Gambia and Somalia, and the Ghana Football Association faces pressure to appoint a coach in time to prepare the team for those fixtures.
