Salah warned age and pace could test him in Turkish Super Lig

Mohamed Salah has been warned that age and the physical demands of the Turkish Super Lig could make his move to Trabzonspor a difficult adjustment. Former Tottenham Hotspur and England winger Chris Waddle believes the 34-year-old Egyptian can still enjoy the next stage of his career, but may need to change how he plays.

Salah joined Trabzonspor after leaving Liverpool at the end of a hugely successful nine-year spell at Anfield. His decision surprised many observers, with Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer previously viewed as more probable destinations for the forward.

Waddle sees Turkey as an interesting choice for Salah, who remains one of the most decorated attackers of his generation. He believes the move can work, but expects the forward to face immediate pressure to show his value to Trabzonspor and justify the expectations attached to a globally recognised signing.

The main concern is whether Salah can remain as influential without relying as heavily on the acceleration and explosive movement that have defined much of his career. Waddle considers Salah’s football intelligence and finishing major strengths, while arguing that the forward’s pace may become less decisive as he gets older.

Trabzonspor will also be competing in a league that Waddle regards as demanding and physically intense. He noted that some Turkish sides are stronger than Trabzonspor, adding to the challenge Salah will face as he seeks to make an impact in a new footballing environment.

The move follows nine seasons in which Salah established himself as a key figure at Liverpool. In Turkey, he will have to adapt his game while carrying the expectations that come with his reputation, with his ability to influence Trabzonspor’s pursuit of league or cup success likely to be closely examined.
