Taiwo Awoniyi gets Forest farewell in 2-0 preseason win over Brest

Taiwo Awoniyi received a guard of honour from Nottingham Forest teammates before his expected move to Coventry City after beating Brest 2-0.

Taiwo Awoniyi was given a farewell by Nottingham Forest during their 2-0 preseason victory over Brest on Sunday, as his move to Coventry City draws closer. The striker received a guard of honour from his teammates before leaving the club.

Awoniyi said goodbye to Forest supporters at the City Ground during the half-time interval. After the match, members of the first-team squad lifted him into the air as they marked his departure.

Forest manager Oliver Glasner said Awoniyi had earned the send-off through his character and commitment. The coach described the 29-year-old as one of the most pleasant people he had met, highlighting his friendliness and regular smile.

Glasner also said Awoniyi was popular across the club and among the supporters because he consistently gave his full effort, including when he was on the bench. Those qualities, the manager said, were behind Forest’s decision to arrange the guard of honour and farewell.

Awoniyi is expected to complete his move to Coventry in the next few days. He is also expected to be available for Coventry’s Premier League opening match against Arsenal on Friday.

Glasner wished the striker well at his next club, while making an exception for matches in which Coventry face Forest. Awoniyi’s farewell came after a Forest performance that ended with a two-goal win over Brest.
