Wrexham explore move for Ghanaian midfielder Augustine Boakye

Wrexham are exploring a move for Saint-Etienne midfielder Augustine Boakye. The 25-year-old Ghana international has started both of Saint-Etienne’s Ligue 2 matches this season and has one assist.

Boakye has featured for 71 per cent of the minutes available to his club in the league campaign so far. His contribution has accounted for 17 per cent of Saint-Etienne’s goal involvement, underlining his early importance to the French side.

The Ghanaian joined Saint-Etienne on 13 July 2024 and is contracted to the club until 30 June 2028. That agreement leaves Saint-Etienne in control of his situation while interest from Wrexham develops, and no transfer fee or deal has been disclosed.

Boakye is a left-footed player whose main position is in advanced midfield. He was born in Bompata and has been included in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, although he did not play in the team’s first four matches listed in the tournament.

The potential move would involve clubs preparing for different divisions. Saint-Etienne are competing in Ligue 2, while Wrexham are getting ready for life in the Championship. The English club’s interest remains at the exploratory stage rather than representing a completed transfer.

Boakye’s listed market value is €6 million, a figure that indicates the potential scale of any negotiations but does not represent an agreed fee. His contract length and current role at Saint-Etienne remain key factors as Wrexham consider whether to advance their interest.
