Tusker FC beat Gor Mahia 3-1 to win FKF Super Cup bragging rights

Tusker FC defeated Gor Mahia 3-1 at Nyayo Stadium to take early FKF Super Cup bragging rights and raise questions for the league champions.

Tusker FC defeated Gor Mahia 3-1 at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, August 23, to claim the FKF Super Cup and early bragging rights. The result gives the Brewers a strong start against the side that finished first in the 2025 FKF Premier League.

Gor Mahia had the first clear opportunity when Ben Stanley Omondi tested Tusker goalkeeper Perrauld Ndinga with a powerful effort in the eighth minute. Ndinga kept the attempt out, while Tusker then came close at the other end after Yakeen Muteheli escaped his marker and sent the ball across goal towards Abdoulie Joof.

Tusker took control late in the first half with two goals in quick succession. Servyl Akouala’s low free-kick reached Francis Oduor near the edge of the box in the 34th minute, and Oduor finished with a half-volley. Two minutes later, Alvin Mang’eni created space on the left before supplying Eugene Ikutwa, who beat Humphrey Katasi to put Tusker 2-0 ahead.

Gor Mahia reduced the deficit before the interval when a long throw-in led to Ikutwa putting the ball into his own net. The Kenyan champions made two changes at half-time, bringing on Ebenezer Assifuah and Musa Shariff for Derrick Omedi and Enock Machaka, but Tusker restored their two-goal advantage in the 57th minute. Ian Simiyu met another cross from Muteheli with a flicked header for 3-1.

Gor Mahia pressed for a second goal during the closing stages, including six minutes of added time, but Tusker’s defence remained intact. The loss comes after a mixed run for Gor Mahia, who recorded two wins, two defeats and a draw in their latest five listed matches. Their 2025 league campaign ended with 69 points from 34 games, built on 20 wins, nine draws and five losses, with 50 goals scored and 22 conceded.

The defeat leaves Gor Mahia’s technical bench with issues to address before the new season and before their next listed fixture, a home league match against Murang’a SEAL on August 29, 2026.
