U-20 Women’s World Cup: Ansah calls Ghana’s Group C a tough test
Ghana captain Linda Owusu Ansah says Group C will be demanding as the Black Princesses target a first U-20 Women’s World Cup knockout place.
Ghana’s recent five-match record is two defeats, two draws and one win, with results including a 1-0 loss to Colombia and a 1-2 defeat by Croatia. The Black Princesses have been placed in Group C at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup alongside Ecuador, France and Korea Republic.
Captain Linda Owusu Ansah has acknowledged the strength of the section, identifying all three opponents as established football nations. She expects Ghana to face a demanding campaign but believes the team’s attitude can help it compete against the countries in the group.
Ghana’s other recent results were a goalless draw with England, a 1-0 victory over Panama and a 1-1 draw away to Wales. Those matches form part of the side’s preparations as it builds towards the tournament in Poland.
The Black Princesses are seeking a breakthrough at the global finals. Ghana have qualified for the competition eight times in succession but have never reached the knockout stage, leaving Group C as another opportunity to end that run.
Ansah played a decisive role in Ghana’s qualification by scoring the goal that settled the tie against Uganda. The attacking midfielder now faces the task of helping the team turn that qualification into progress beyond the group phase.
Ghana will use the rest of its preparations to ready itself for the three group matches. Ansah has framed the challenge as one the team must embrace as it attempts to make history by reaching the knockout stage for the first time.
