Uganda badminton team wins three medals at Ghana International 2026
Uganda claimed one silver and two bronze medals in Ghana as its badminton players pursued ranking points ahead of world and Olympic qualification.
Uganda returned from the JE WILSON Ghana International 2026 with three medals: one silver and two bronze. The BWF-sanctioned tournament was held in Ghana from 12 to 16 August, giving the Ugandan players more opportunities to improve their rankings ahead of the World Championships and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualification race.
Muzafaru Lubega and Gladys Mbabazi delivered Uganda’s best result by reaching the Mixed Doubles final. Their progress through the draw secured at least silver before the title match, while their run also brought valuable ranking points in one of the events being used to build towards the next major international targets.
Mbabazi also collected bronze in the Women’s Doubles after partnering Kruthum Nalumansi. The two medals made her Uganda’s standout performer in Ghana and added to a strong domestic season in which she defended the Professional Women’s Doubles and Professional Mixed Doubles titles at July’s Kabaka’s Coronation Badminton Tournament.
Tracy Naluwooza and Reagan Nsubuga claimed the other bronze medal in Mixed Doubles. Their podium finish gave Uganda two medal-winning combinations in the discipline and reflected the growing depth among the country’s players. Naluwooza’s result was another international milestone as she continues to develop and work towards a higher ranking.
Lubega also reached the Men’s Singles quarter-finals after defeating Ghana’s Reuben Teye Tetteh 21–13, 21–17. His singles progress, alongside the Mixed Doubles final appearance, showed his ability to contribute across two events and added further wins to Uganda’s campaign.
The medals were part of a wider effort to gain BWF ranking points and international experience rather than the only measure of the trip. Uganda’s next chances come at the Lagos International in Nigeria from 26 to 29 August, followed by the Cameroon International from 3 to 6 September. Those tournaments will continue the ranking push before Olympic qualification is expected to begin next year.
