Wolves injury update: Trippier and Mosquera face weeks out after opener
Kieran Trippier and Yerson Mosquera will miss several weeks for Wolves, while Rafiki Said, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Sam Johnstone near returns.
Wolverhampton Wanderers will be without Kieran Trippier and Yerson Mosquera for several weeks after both defenders were injured in the Championship opener against Blackburn Rovers. Trippier has a less serious problem with the medial ligament in his left knee, while Mosquera suffered a high ankle ligament injury.
Trippier will wear a brace for the next week after receiving an injection intended to support his recovery. Wolves expect the defender to remain unavailable for a number of weeks as he completes his rehabilitation.
Mosquera’s scan showed that the ankle ligament is not completely torn, but the injury will still keep him out for a few weeks. He is due to have an injection this week and will spend the next couple of weeks in a protective boot before beginning a further period away from training.
There is more encouraging news on Rafiki Said. His latest scan showed good progress, allowing him to come out of his brace and begin running on an anti-gravity treadmill. He is expected to resume outdoor work next week, starting with straight-line running before adding changes of direction and ball exercises.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde has also returned to outdoor work and ball training after progressing through strength exercises. Wolves are limiting his maximum-speed running because of the risk of another hamstring problem, with a return to the main group expected in a couple of weeks.
Sam Johnstone has been back in modified training for about three weeks and has coped well with the increased demands on his operated shoulder. He has full movement and is close to full fitness, with a return to that level expected within the next week.
