Yeimar Mosquera misses second match due to registration issues

Yeimar Mosquera is set to miss a second consecutive league match for Vitória de Guimarães. The 21-year-old Colombian defender remains unable to participate in competitive fixtures due to outstanding registration documentation.

Vitória de Guimarães is currently waiting for a criminal record certificate to complete the registration process for both Mosquera and summer signing Patrick Ouotro. The club requested these documents more than 20 days ago, meaning the delay is not a recent oversight. This administrative issue prevented both players from featuring in the opening-day 1-0 defeat to Arouca.

The situation is particularly difficult for Mosquera because he was a frequent participant in pre-season training under manager Tiago Margarido. His absence from the squad appears to be entirely due to paperwork rather than his standing within the team. Aston Villa representatives were present at the match against Arouca, but they were unable to see the former defender in action.

Mosquera joined the Portuguese side this summer on a permanent deal worth €475k (£410k) following his departure from Aston Villa. His contract with Vitória de Guimarães runs until 2030. Before this move, the defender was with Villa until 2024 and spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Real Unión in the Spanish third tier. He also made 15 appearances and scored one goal for the Aston Villa U21 side last season.

Time is running out for the defender to join the squad for the upcoming trip to Alvalade to face Sporting on Saturday. While Mosquera and Ouotro have not been officially ruled out of the match, completing the registration process in time is considered very difficult.
