2026 MTN Elite U19 Championship set for August 24 to September 4

The second MTN Elite U19 Championship will bring together 10 regional teams in Prampram from August 24 to September 4.

The 2026 MTN Elite U19 Championship is ready to begin on August 24, with the second edition scheduled to run until September 4 at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Ten Under-19 select sides representing Ghana’s Regional Football Associations will compete in the championship. The tournament is sponsored by MTN Ghana and forms part of a long-term player development plan by the Ghana Football Association.

The regional teams will be composed of players drawn from Ghana’s Second Division. The format will give promising young footballers an opportunity to test themselves in a more demanding national competition while representing their regions.

Edem Agbana, chairman of the MTN Elite U19 Championship, said preparations had reached completion. Agbana, who is also president of Nukunu Sports Academy, confirmed the August 24 to September 4 dates in an interview with Asempa FM.

The championship is also intended to create a platform for the players to attract attention from national youth team coaches, scouts and professional clubs. Their performances in Prampram could therefore place them before officials involved in identifying and developing emerging talent.

The 10 regional selections will compete against each other across the 12-day tournament, giving young players from Ghana’s Second Division a national stage within the country’s youth development structure.
