Zulte Waregem complete deal for Ikorodu City teen Musa Omotayo

Belgian top-flight club Zulte Waregem have completed the signing of Ikorodu City winger Musa Maliq Omotayo, who has joined training.

Belgian top-flight club Zulte Waregem have completed the signing of Ikorodu City winger Musa Maliq Omotayo. The left-footed Nigerian turned 18 yesterday, passed his medical and has already joined the Belgian side’s training sessions.

Omotayo is expected to be formally announced as a Zulte Waregem player in the coming hours. His move follows a breakthrough season with Ikorodu City in the Nigeria Professional Football League, where his performances attracted interest from clubs in England as well as the Belgian team.

The teenager reportedly chose a permanent move to Zulte Waregem after turning down an opportunity to attend a trial with Barcelona. He began his rise in the Lagos TCC league before stepping up to NPFL football with Ikorodu City.

Omotayo has been described as a direct winger with pace, close control and a strong finishing instinct. His arrival at Zulte Waregem gives him the chance to continue his development in Belgium, a route previously used by Nigerian players seeking to establish themselves in European football.

Ikorodu City are fourth in the 2026 NPFL standings with 59 points from 38 matches. They have won 16 games, drawn 11 and lost 11, with 42 goals scored and 37 conceded.

The Lagos club have not won in their last five matches, drawing 1-1 away to Nasarawa United, 2-2 against Barau FC and 1-1 with Enyimba before defeats by Enugu Rangers and Katsina United. Their next fixture is at home against Ranchers Bees on August 30, but Omotayo’s move means Ikorodu will now see one of their young attacking talents continue his career abroad.
