Adoji Ondoka wins Mayuku Pro-Am Birthday Kitty with 3-over-par

Adoji Ondoka won the professional category at the Daniel Mayuku Pro-Am Birthday Kitty in Asaba with a score of 3-over-par. He finished ahead of Abubakar Mustapha on countback at Ibori Golf & Country Club, where the event was played over a 72-par course.

The ceremonial competition attracted more than 100 professional and amateur golfers from Delta State and beyond. Ondoka’s victory was the main result from the professionals’ contest, while Professor Robert Dode took the IGCC men’s class with 75 net after winning a countback against Sandy Memeh.

Prinye Obuaya led the IGCC women’s section on 78 net, finishing ahead of Igho Ugbegu. John Okojie recorded 81 gross for the men’s best gross prize, while Destiny Okoh won the equivalent women’s award with 90 gross.

Dr Tosan Popo secured the super veterans’ trophy with 78 net, ahead of Professor Ifo Amata on 82 net. Sifo Oniti claimed the veterans’ prize with 76 net, beating Omordi George Ugbomah. Omosigho Obakpolo won the guest ladies’ category on 77 net, while Bilaye Ibrahim took the guest men’s title with 78 net.

Omenuko finished 4-over-par to win the senior professional category ahead of Francis Isuku. Winifred Amina also posted 4-over-par to take the ladies’ professional prize.

The event honoured Mayuku, a former Warri South-West representative in the Delta State House of Assembly and a four-time captain of Ibori Golf & Country Club. Club captain Alex Joe and former captain Patrick Ukah credited him with helping develop golf in Nigeria and supporting the progress of young players. Former ladies’ section captain Igho Ugbegu also described him as a dedicated golfer whose six-year absence had left a gap in the local circuit.

Mayuku, who recently turned 60, thanked club members for their support and said he had returned to contribute to golf in Nigeria and internationally. He also called for Nigeria to renew its approach to the Professional Golf Association Tour to help attract international events. The gathering included his donation of golf equipment to the club and the presentation of prizes to the winners.
