Allotey faces Garcia in WBA super flyweight eliminator in Accra
Ghana’s Theo Lopez Allotey will meet Argentina’s Facundo Garcia in a WBA super flyweight final eliminator in Accra on September 19.
Ghanaian boxer Theophilus Kpakpo “Theo Lopez” Allotey will face Argentina’s Facundo David Garcia in a WBA super flyweight final eliminator in Accra on September 19. The winner will move closer to a world championship opportunity in the division.
The bout will headline the first Osagyefo Fight Night, organised by Obra Sports in honour of Ghana’s founding president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah. It will take place two days before Ghana’s official holiday celebrating Nkrumah’s legacy. The event is scheduled for Bukom, a major centre of boxing in Accra.
Allotey, 24, has built a strong record since turning professional in July 2024. The former Accra 2023 African Games bronze medallist has won five titles in 22 months, collecting national, UBO Africa, WBO Africa, WBO Global and WBA Africa honours.
His latest major breakthrough came in April, when he stopped Namibia’s Jonas Erastus in the seventh round to win the WBO Global super flyweight title. That victory helped take Allotey into The Ring magazine’s top 10 and strengthened his position across the WBO, WBC and WBA global rankings.
Garcia brings a professional record of six wins, two losses and two draws, with three victories inside the distance. He began his career in February 2021 and fought his first nine professional bouts in Argentina before travelling to Chile for his most recent contest. There, he earned a split-decision victory over Chilean Andres Campos.
The Accra contest will therefore be Garcia’s second successive fight outside Argentina and his first in Ghana. For Allotey, the eliminator offers a chance to convert his rapid rise and growing ranking recognition into a direct route towards a world title fight on home soil.
