Asante Kotoko complete signing of Moroccan goalkeeper Abdel Wadie Mourad

Asante Kotoko have signed 22-year-old Moroccan goalkeeper Abdel Wadie Mourad permanently from Albania’s Basania FC ahead of 2026/27.

Asante Kotoko have completed the permanent signing of Moroccan goalkeeper Abdel Wadie Mourad from Albanian club Basania FC. The 22-year-old has arrived in Ghana and signed his contract with the Porcupine Warriors ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

Mourad joins Kotoko after previously playing for Chabab Mohammedia in Morocco’s Botola Pro League. He made 13 appearances for the club during the 2024/25 campaign, accumulating 1,170 minutes and establishing himself as a regular goalkeeping option.

Standing at 1.93 metres, Mourad adds height and experience to Kotoko’s goalkeeping department. His move had been linked with reports of a trial, but the agreement completed by the club is a permanent transfer from Basania.

His arrival comes during a major reshaping of Kotoko’s goalkeeping options. The club have also brought back former goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim, while Mohammed Camara has left to join Ethiopian side Mechal.

The changes give head coach Eric Tinkler another option as he rebuilds the squad for the new league campaign. Mourad’s addition also creates competition for places alongside Danlad as Kotoko prepare for the 2026/27 season.

Mourad is represented by Mir Sport and is valued at approximately €130,000. He becomes one of the young Moroccan players moving into Ghanaian football as he begins the next stage of his career with one of the country’s most established clubs.
