Cagliari star Yael Trepy hospitalised after Sardinia pool incident

Cagliari player Yael Trepy is in intensive care after nearly drowning in a swimming pool during his break in Sardinia.

Cagliari player Yael Trepy has been taken to hospital and placed in intensive care after nearly drowning in a swimming pool in Sardinia. The 20-year-old was reportedly airlifted to the Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari after losing consciousness in the water.

The incident occurred at a mansion while Trepy was enjoying time away from football. He had been given a break after Cagliari’s 1-0 Coppa Italia victory over Arezzo, a match in which he played 53 minutes before being substituted.

Trepy is understood not to be a confident swimmer and reached the deep end of the pool. He then lost consciousness before being taken for medical treatment. The circumstances have left the Cagliari player in intensive care.

Cagliari said it is maintaining contact with the hospital and Trepy’s family while following his condition. The club has also asked for privacy for the player and his relatives, saying it will share further information when available.

Trepy was born in France and developed in the academy of Parisian club US Creteil-Lusitanos. Cagliari signed him in 2022, and he helped the club’s youth side win the equivalent of the FA Youth Cup in 2025 by scoring against AC Milan’s academy team.

He made his senior breakthrough last season, featuring in eight Serie A matches and scoring once. Cagliari finished 14th in the previous campaign and are scheduled to begin their new league season away at Parma on Saturday.
