Cam Nelson signs with UFC to face Ding Meng in Shanghai

Cam Nelson is set to make history as the first fighter born on Prince Edward Island to compete in the UFC. The 28-year-old will face Ding Meng at UFC Shanghai on August 29.

Nelson enters the promotion with a professional record of seven wins and one loss. He is currently on a five-fight winning streak, which includes three consecutive finishes. His recent success included winning a professional title under the Fight League Atlantic banner.

Nelson has spent significant time training at Niagara Top Team alongside fighters such as Mike Malott, Jasmine Jasudavicius, and Cody Chovancek. He also trains with PFL fighter Aaron Jeffery, who recently secured a unanimous decision victory over Josh Silveira at PFL Charlotte.

Jeffery, a former BTC and CFFC champion, commented on Nelson's readiness for the global stage. He noted that Nelson is a strong fighter and a good person who has earned his position through recent knockouts in the FLA and his professional title win.

For Nelson, the move to the UFC represents the culmination of a long-term goal to represent his home province in the world's premier combat sports organization. He has described the UFC as the pinnacle of the sport and an attainable destination for those progressing through the regional scenes.
