Carrick urges Manchester United board to sign more players

Manchester United permanent head coach Michael Carrick has requested that the club's board secure additional signings before the summer transfer window shuts. He stated that the squad requires more players to meet the challenge of competing across all competitions.

Carrick took over as interim head coach following the departure of Ruben Amorim during a difficult start to the 2025-26 season. After stabilizing the team and securing a place in the UEFA Champions League, he was promoted to the permanent managerial role.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Carrick noted that the club must strive for success while remaining mindful of their recent history. He explained that while the team must maximize its current resources, they need to push limits to return to winning ways. He added that the club is looking for ways to improve the squad and understands the financial aspects involved.

To date, the club has completed several moves to strengthen the roster. Following the free agency departure of Casemiro, the team signed midfielders Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa. In goal, Karl Darlow joined as a deputy to Senne Lammens after Altay Bayindir moved to Celta Vigo on loan.

Manchester United are currently linked with Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall. The club has also shown interest in Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni, though negotiations regarding the midfielder have not progressed.
