Chicken Inn seek revenge against Highlanders in 2026 PSL derby
Chicken Inn face Highlanders on 19 August seeking to erase a 3-1 league defeat and a 3-1 penalty-shootout loss in the Chibuku Super Cup.
Chicken Inn will try to overturn a 3-1 league defeat when they visit Highlanders in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League on 19 August 2026. The Bulawayo rivals meet again three days after Bosso won their Chibuku Super Cup tie 3-1 on penalties following a 0-0 draw at Barbourfields Stadium.
The latest fixture gives Chicken Inn another chance to respond after Highlanders also ended their cup campaign. The Gamecocks held Bosso scoreless during regulation time in the cup meeting, but Highlanders converted the decisive opportunity from the spot to advance to the quarter-finals.
Highlanders have already won the first league meeting between the sides, leaving Chicken Inn seeking to prevent a second defeat in the league season. The back-to-back fixtures have kept the rivalry at the centre of the Bulawayo football calendar, with the two teams having little time between their meetings.
Chicken Inn occupy 10th place with 33 points from 25 matches. Their league record stands at nine wins, six draws and 10 defeats, with 19 goals scored and 22 conceded. The Gamecocks began their recent sequence with three straight wins, beating TelOne 1-0, Hunters 1-0 away and Manica Diamonds 2-1, before losing 3-2 at Ngezi Platinum and 2-0 against Hardrock.
The recent cup encounter offered Chicken Inn a defensive platform, but their attack must produce more after failing to score across the 90 minutes. Highlanders will draw confidence from their two victories over their city rivals, while the physical and mental demands of playing the same opponent twice in three days add another factor to the contest.
Chicken Inn therefore return to Barbourfields with the league table providing one motivation and the rivalry providing another. A win would give them a response to both Highlanders’ first-leg league success and the latest cup exit, while another defeat would leave Bosso firmly in control of the recent meetings.
