Charamba faces Tebogo in 2026 Lausanne Diamond League 200m

Zimbabwe’s Makanakaishe Charamba will meet Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo in the men’s 200m at Friday’s Lausanne Diamond League.

Makanakaishe Charamba will race Botswana’s Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo in the men’s 200m at Friday’s Lausanne Diamond League meeting. Charamba’s personal and season best is 19.88 seconds, while Tebogo’s best mark is 19.46.

The race at Stade Olympique de la Pontaise is one of the main events at Athletissima as the 2026 Diamond League season resumes in Switzerland. Charamba arrives in Lausanne after a strong second-place finish in Budapest, where he ran 19.95 seconds against a high-quality field.

That performance followed victories in Texas and at the Doha Diamond League, where the Zimbabwean recorded his 19.88. The 24-year-old has also climbed to a career-best seventh in the world rankings, placing him among the leading 200m runners on the circuit.

Tebogo brings a different level of experience to the contest. The Botswana sprinter won Olympic gold in Paris and owns the fastest personal best in the field, but his season mark of 19.84 is behind South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile, who has run 19.74. The Lausanne meeting will therefore also give Tebogo an opportunity to regain the advantage over the Commonwealth champion.

American Courtney Lindsey and Britain’s Zharnel Hughes are also listed for the race, adding further depth to the lineup. Charamba’s recent results give him a realistic route into the podium positions, although matching the execution that produced his Budapest run will be required against Tebogo and the rest of the field.

The Lausanne race comes as the 2026 athletics season continues beyond the major championship programme. It gives Charamba another chance to test his progress against an Olympic champion while strengthening his standing near the top of the global rankings.
