Chukwueze embraces new Milan wing-back role after 4-2 friendly win
Samuel Chukwueze scored once and supplied two assists in Milan’s 4-2 friendly win over Manchester United as he adapts to a new role.
Samuel Chukwueze is embracing his new wing-back role at AC Milan after scoring once and creating two goals in the club’s 4-2 pre-season victory over Manchester United. The 27-year-old Nigeria international produced that display in Wroclaw last weekend as Ruben Amorim continues to shape the team.
Chukwueze returned to Milan after a loan spell and is now competing for a regular place under the Portuguese coach. Amorim has moved him into a position he had never occupied during his career, requiring him to adjust his movement and responsibilities within the team’s system.
The Nigerian views the change as an opportunity to establish himself. He believes Amorim’s confidence has given him an important opening, but accepts that securing a lasting role will depend on his work and performances.
Chukwueze has also welcomed Milan’s approach under Amorim, while acknowledging that he remains in the process of learning the demands of the position. He has identified improvement in training as a priority and said the coaching staff are helping him develop.
The winger’s recent contribution comes as Milan seek greater consistency. Their last five matches have produced two draws, two defeats and one victory: a 1-1 draw with Inter, a 2-2 draw at Celtic, a 1-2 loss to Cagliari, a 2-1 win at Genoa and a 2-3 defeat against Atalanta.
His performance against Manchester United therefore provides a positive start to the adjustment, although the role is still unfamiliar. Chukwueze has accepted that mistakes will form part of the learning process and expects continued work before the new season begins.
